Heavy impact test

Partial certification program

Heavy impact test requirements

UN38.3 certification

Impact (for cylindrical batteries with a diameter of not less than 18 mm)
Place the cell or polymer cell for the test sample on a flat, smooth surface
After placing a crossbar of 15.8 mm in diameter across the middle of the cell, an object of mass 9.1 kg was dropped from the height of 61 ± 2.5 cm toward the sample.
For specimens subjected to impact, the longitudinal axis should be parallel to the flat surface and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the curved surface 15.8 ± 0.1 mm across the center of the specimen. Each sample was subjected to only one impact.
Result: The maximum surface temperature of the cell or battery does not exceed 170 °C. Within 6 hours after the end of the test, the cell and the polymer cell should be free from disintegration and no ignition.

UL certification

The battery was tested at an ambient temperature of 20 ° C ± 5 ° C. The test sample was placed on a flat surface. A strip of 15.8 mm ± 0.1 mm diameter was placed in the center of the sample. An object weighing 9.1 Kg ± 0.46 Kg dropped from the height of 610 mm ± 25 mm and hit the battery.
The cylindrical or prismatic battery was subjected to a weight impact test under its longitudinal axis parallel to the plane and vertically across a cast strip having a diameter of 15.8 mm. The prismatic battery is rotated 90° about its longitudinal axis so that both its wide and narrow sides are impacted. Each sample cell is squeezed in only one direction. A separate sample is used for each test. The button battery was subjected to a weight impact test in parallel with a transversely placed 15.8 mm diameter cast strip and allowed to stand for 6 h.
Result: No fire, no explosion.

CQC certification

After the battery is fully charged in accordance with the test method specified in 4.5.1, place the battery on the surface of the platform, and place a metal rod with a diameter of 15.8 mm ± 0.2 mm on the upper surface of the geometric center of the battery, and use a mass of 9.1 kg ± 0.1 kg The heavy object hits the surface of the battery with the metal rod in the free fall state from a height of 610 mm ± 25 mm, and observes for 6 hours.

The cylindrical battery is required to have its longitudinal axis parallel to the surface of the heavy object during the impact test, and the metal rod is perpendicular to the battery’s longitudinal axis. The square battery is only impact tested on the wide surface. When the button cell is subjected to an impact test, the metal rod is placed across the center of the cell surface. Only one impact test is done for one sample.

The battery should not catch fire or explode.

Note: For flexible packaging batteries, this article does not apply.

CB certification

The battery sample was placed on a flat surface and a 15.8 mm diameter cast strip was placed in the center of the sample. An object weighing 9.1 Kg was dropped from the height of 610 mm ± 25 mm to the battery and allowed to stand.
Result: No fire, no explosion.
