■Introduction to CNAS
The China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) is a national accreditation body approved and established by the National Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) in accordance with the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Certification and Accreditation, and is responsible for the certification bodies, laboratories and Accreditation of relevant agencies such as inspection agencies.
■Historical evolution
The China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment was formally established on March 31, 2006. It was integrated on the basis of the former China Certification Body National Accreditation Board (CNAB) and the former China National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (CNAL).
The China National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (CNAB) is a national accreditation body authorized by the China National Certification and Accreditation Administration Committee to be responsible for the accreditation of certification bodies engaged in various management system certifications and product certifications. Established in July 2002, it is the former China Quality System Certification Body National Accreditation Committee (CNACR), the former China Product Certification Organization National Accreditation Committee (CNACP), the former China National Import and Export Enterprise Certification Body Accreditation Committee (CNAB) and the former China. The China National Accreditation Service for Laboratories (CNAL) is a national accreditation body that has been approved and authorized by the China National Certification and Accreditation Administration to be responsible for the accreditation and related work of laboratories and inspection bodies. Established in July 2002, it is a laboratory accredited by the former State Bureau of Technical Supervision, the National Accreditation Committee of China Laboratories (CNACL) and the former Import and Export Commodity Inspection Bureau. It was established on the basis of the National Laboratory Accreditation Organization, accredited by the National Laboratory for Accreditation of Institutions, and the Accreditation Committee of the Chinese National Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Laboratory (abbreviation: CCIBLAC).

■International mutual recognition
China's national accreditation system for conformity assessment plays an important role in international accreditation activities. Its accreditation activities have been integrated into the international recognition and mutual recognition system and play an important role. The China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment is a full member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), and the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC). At present, IAF mutual recognition members including CNAS come from 60 accredited institutions in 55 economies, and ILAC mutual recognition members come from 89 accredited institutions in 74 economies.
