Many manufacturers hear “WERCS” for the first time and think it’s just another certification like UL or CE.It is NOT.
For battery companies targeting Walmart, Costco, The Home Depot, or Amazon US,WERCSmart is a mandatory “data passport” you cannot skip.
This guide explains everything clearly:What WERCS really is · How to register · How much it costs · The top pitfalls to avoid.
WERCS (Worldwide Environmental Regulatory Compliance System)is a product safety and environmental data platform owned by UL (USA).
It does NOT issue test certificates. It is an online review system for retailers.
In short: No WERCS = No entry to their warehouses or shelves.
No sample testing is needed — 100% online. But details are critical; one mistake leads to rejection.
Important:If the battery is sold separately on shelves (e.g., 18650 retail packs),you need bilingual SDS: English + French for Canada.
Register on WERCSmart, select your target retailers, fill in information, and upload files.
Typically 48 hours to 7 working days.Incomplete or wrong information will be returned.
Once approved, the ID is synced to retailers. You can now ship.
For power banks, earbuds, or any device with built-in battery:
Since 2019, Walmart and others require:
表格
| Mode | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Non-retail (battery inside product) | English SDS only |
| Retail (battery sold separately) | Bilingual EN+FR SDS + UPC code |
Cost has 3 parts:
WERCS annual platform feeTiered subscription (up to 3, up to 25, up to 100 products).Fixed fee per tier, not per product.
UN38.3 test feeAround ¥3,000 for batteries <100Wh (if you don’t already have a report).
Agency service feeAround ¥1,000 for SDS editing, document review, full submission.
Money-saving tip:Within the subscription year, you can replace old products with new ones for free.
WERCS itself is simple, but details kill approvals. We help you avoid all the traps.
