On March 31, 2026, the new national standard GB 47372-2026 for power banks was officially issued,with mandatory implementation starting April 1, 2027.This new standard marks that China’s power bank industry has entered a new stageof standardized and refined safety regulation.

Unlike previous certification schemes,GB 47372-2026 is not a minor revisionbut a comprehensive safety upgrade that raises industry thresholdsacross the entire chain: design, manufacturing, and testing.

Three Core Highlights of the New Standard

1. Stricter Cell Safety Requirements

Nail Penetration Test:Fully charged cells must be vertically penetrated through the geometric centerusing a 4mm steel needle at 20±2mm/s, held for 5 minutes.No fire, explosion, or leakage is allowed.
Thermal Abuse Test:Cells must remain safe after exposure to 135℃±2℃ for 60 minutes.
Overcharge Test:Charging voltage is increased to 1.4 times the rated voltageto verify overcharge protection effectiveness.

2. Whole Product & Material Control

Mechanical Safety:New tests added for drop, crush, and heavy impactcovering transportation and usage scenarios.
Material Restrictions:Second-life / refurbished cells are prohibited.Electrolyte requirements: moisture ≤20ppm, HF content ≤100ppm.
Mandatory Labeling:Must indicate safe service life, OEM manufacturer info, and battery material type.

3. Compliance & Transition Period

After the transition period,non-compliant power banks are banned from production, sale, and import.This will accelerate industry consolidation and eliminate small-scale manufacturers.

Enterprises must complete product upgrades and certification renewalto ensure full compliance in incoming materials, production, and final inspection.

Simultaneous Updates to GB 31241 Lithium Battery Standards

The national standards for lithium batteries for household applianceshave also been significantly updated.The GB 31241 series has been split and upgraded,filling gaps in mandatory standards for multiple sub-sectorsand strengthening the regulatory system for full-category lithium battery safety.
